As the only remaining George Temple-Poole residence, Kulahea is a Perth heritage gem. The heritage council was heavily involved in the design and approval process, allowing this 1922 dwelling to be considerately articulated to reflect modern living styles. The focus lay with the transition. From the front door, you view through the heavily timbered stairwell, to the high ceilings in the Study and Ante room. A Compass inlay articulates the threshold between old and new, and punctuates the view through from living room to pool. The addition opened up the dwelling to the north, allowing winter sun and breezes to penetrate into the extensive living spaces which filter back into the original dwelling.
